Website management

Custom fields

Custom fields: add your own fields to events, teams and programs (text, long text, number, date, dropdown, multiple choice, yes/no or web address), fill them in on each item's edit page, and choose which ones appear under "Details" on your website. Staff-only fields never leave the admin. Free plan: 3 active fields; Standard and above: unlimited.

Custom fields let you record extra details about your events, teams and programs: a team's kit colour, the age group a program is for, whether an event has parking. You'll find the screen under Website management → Custom fields in the admin sidebar, just below Media library.

You define a field once here, then fill it in on each event, team or program's own edit page. Mark a field public and its value appears under Details on that item's page on your website. Leave it unticked and only your staff see it.

Who can use this

Admins and moderators can add, change and archive fields. Filling a field in follows the item: admins and moderators for events and teams, and anyone who can manage programs for programs.

Every plan includes custom fields. The Free plan holds up to 3 active fields across events, teams and programs together. Standard and above have no limit. It's the same rule as custom member fields.

What's on the page

  • Add a field: pick what it's for (events, teams or programs), give it a label, choose a type, and tick Show on the website if the public should see it.
  • One panel per kind: the fields you've added for events, teams and programs, each with its type and whether it's public or staff only. A kind with no fields doesn't get a panel.
  • Archived: fields you've archived. They keep their values and can be restored.

Step by step

Add a field

  1. Under Add a field, choose Events, Teams or Programs.
  2. Type a label, such as "Kit colour".
  3. Choose a type. For Dropdown or Multiple choice, list the options separated by commas.
  4. Tick Show on the website if the value should appear on the public page.
  5. Select Add field.

Fill a field in

  1. Open the event, team or program in the admin.
  2. Find the Custom fields panel, below the main form.
  3. Enter the values and select Save fields. Clearing a box removes that value.

Archive or restore a field

  1. Select Archive on the field. It disappears from edit pages and the website, but its values are kept.
  2. To bring it back, open Archived and select Restore. On the Free plan, restoring counts towards the 3 active fields.

Field reference

TypeWhat it holds
TextA short line, up to 500 characters.
Long textA paragraph, up to 4,000 characters.
NumberAny number.
DateA calendar date.
DropdownOne of the options you list.
Multiple choiceAny number of the options you list.
Yes / NoA tick box, shown as Yes or No on the website.
Web addressA full link starting with https:// or http://.

The label and type can be changed later. What a field is for (events, teams or programs) can't. A field's internal key is made from its first label and never changes.

Tips & FAQ

Who sees a public field? Anyone who can see the item. A members-only event's public fields are shown only to the members who can see that event.

Why isn't my field showing on the website? Check three things: the field is ticked Show on the website, it has a value on that item, and the item itself is published.

Can I use custom fields on pages? Not yet. Events, teams and programs come first.

Does the public API include them? Yes. The events and teams lists in the public read API include each item's public fields. Staff-only fields are never included.

I changed a field's type and a value disappeared from the website. A value saved under the old type is hidden if it doesn't fit the new one. Open the item and save the field again.
