Locations

Locations are the venues, grounds and halls your organisation plays or meets at. Adding them here gives each one a public page with an address, photo and map, and lets you attach venues to events. You'll find Locations in the admin sidebar under Publish updates.

Who can use this

You need to be an admin or moderator to add, edit or delete locations. The Locations feature must also be switched on for your site — if it's turned off under Features, the sidebar item disappears. If your subscription is overdue, you'll see a banner saying "Admin write features are locked until billing is up to date" and the Save and Delete buttons are disabled until billing is sorted (see Subscription & billing).

What's on the page

The main page lists every location you've added, showing its Name, Address, Visibility and when it was last Updated. You can search by name, slug or address, filter by visibility, and sort. Each row has icons to view the public page or edit the location.

Step by step

Add a location

Add a venue asks four short questions.

1. Click New location (top right).
2. What's the venue called? — a Name (must be unique within your organisation) and the Web address (which fills itself in from the name), plus an optional Description and Photo. Both the name and the address tell you as you type whether they're already used by another venue, with a green tick when they're free — so you find out before you save, not after.
3. Where is it? — use the Find address search to look the venue up. Picking a result fills the structured fields plus the latitude and longitude; you can edit any of them afterwards. Check the Timezone (IANA) — it's pre-filled with your organisation default, and it's a search box: type a city or region and pick from the list. The Country picker starts on your organisation's country from Business details; change it, or clear it if this venue is elsewhere.
4. Pin it on the map — optional, only needed if the address alone is hard to find.
5. Who can see it? — Anyone, Members only, or Certain people only.
6. Click Save location.

Set the ground status

The Ground status panel at the top of the Locations page is the one that answers the Saturday-morning question: is it on this morning? Whatever you choose here appears as a band across the top of every page on your public website.

1. Pick the call — No band, Grounds open, Wet-weather call or Grounds closed.
2. Add a Headline in your own words if you want one ("Oval 2 is under water — juniors moved to the synthetic"). Leave it blank and we'll write a sensible sentence for you.
3. Use More detail for the practical part: when the next call is, who to ring, where to park instead.
4. Check Show until. It defaults to 9pm tonight in your organisation's time zone, and the band disappears by itself when that passes — so Saturday's call never greets someone on Wednesday. Clear the field to leave it up until you change it.
5. Click Save ground status.

The band shows who set it and when, so members can see how fresh the call is. Nothing sets it but a person — no weather forecast, no automatic rule, and no change to a fixture will ever flip your ground status for you. A wrong automatic call would be your club's problem in front of your own members, so we don't make one.

Turn match-day mode on or off

The Match day panel controls how your public site behaves on the days you play. With it on Automatically, your site quietly changes character from six hours before your first fixture to six hours after your last: an accent ribbon appears with the next kick-off and a countdown ring, and the rest of the week the site stays calm.

• Off — nothing changes, ever. Choose this if you'd rather your site looked the same every day.
• Ribbon wording — optional, replaces the default line ("Round 12 at Wilson Park").
• Busiest week — if you have fixtures on more days than this in a single week, match-day mode switches itself off for that period. A site that's in match-day mode seven days a week isn't telling anyone anything. Centres that genuinely play most days can raise the number.

Set the map pin

Coordinates are filled automatically when you pick an address. The Find address search badges each result as Exact, Place, Street or Area, and warns you if a match is only approximate. If the pin is off, right-click the correct spot on Google Maps to copy the coordinates and paste them into the Latitude and Longitude fields. These coordinates are what power the interactive map and "Where we play" pins on your public site. You can also add a Google Maps URL for an "Open larger map" link.

Edit or delete a location

1. Click a row (or its pencil icon) to open it.
2. Make your changes and click Save location. Use View public page to see how it looks live.
3. To remove it, scroll to Delete location and click the red Delete location button. This also removes it from any events still referencing it, and can't be undone here.

Field reference

Tips & FAQ

• The map lives on the public site, not here. The admin form captures coordinates; the interactive map and pins appear on your public location page and "Where we play" list.
• Members-only and Role-required work like protected Pages: anonymous visitors are sent to sign in, and a missing role returns a 404.
• Linking venues to events: locations you add here can be attached to Events, which use the venue's timezone by default.
• Ground status and match day need the Locations module switched on, because they live on this page. If you turn Locations off under Features, both controls go with it and the public band stops being set (an existing band still expires on its own Show until).
• Moderators can set the ground status too. On a wet morning the person standing on the ground is usually the duty officer, not the president.
• Changes are recorded in the Activity log.
